Office/Shed Kit Build
This was a multi-phase project that started with just creating a building platform for an office kit build to go on top of and ended up turning into roofing, electrical and problem solving for when the kit didn’t “build” so easily.
Original Storage shed needed to be moved
Phase 1: Storage Shed move
After much deliberation on location we determined that the existing storage shed needed to be moved to make space for the much more beautiful and functional office shed. To make this happen we first cleared the path and leveled the dirt between the storage shed location and the new driveway location. We installed cross bracing inside the shed to resist racking while being moved and slid down the hill on rollers. We made sure to follow all required set back guidelines and it’s a good thing do because it was just enough space to get our dingo through to complete the foundation work.
New Location
Chris had a fun time filming the process of moving the shed to share with his boys and the homeowners daughter. The video is too big to upload but if you want to see a slightly shaky video and a human moving at super speed please ask him, he always loves sharing it.
Phase 2: Establish foundation
The next step was to use the auger to create 4 large concrete footings for the foundation beams to set on. This took some strategy to dig, level the ground and still be able to move the dingo around safely. But we got it done, and poured the concrete ahead of schedule! Once the concrete had set a sufficient amount of time we installed the off set beam brackets, mounted the beams and cut the joists all in 1 day. This foundation was built to match the office footprint exactly. We needed to coordinate with the kit manufacture directly to get specifics in order to get it right.
Phase 3: Problem solve: Floor and roof completion
Due to poor quality in wood/kit design the framing of the roof and flooring installation was much harder than it should have been for the home owner. They called us back in to help wrestle the warped boards into submission and get things square and plumb. Given how hard that process was we are very happy to report the floor looks great. We even got to complete the shingling of the roof. It is always satisfying to see a roof come together in such a beautiful way.
Flooring
The homeowner will be using this office year round and asked us to craft a custom insulation solution. We created after market insulation bays and installed clean finish plywood to cover and allow for roofing insulation. We also installed rigid foam insulation under the floor for added warmth in the winter time.
